Dean Forest Landfill receives fifth straight perfect inspection

SAVANNAH (March 8) — Earlier this year, the Georgia Department of Natural Resources Environmental Protection Division (EPD) performed a routine compliance evaluation inspection of the City of Savannah’s Dean Forest Road Landfill, resulting in an overall score of 100.

“As we focus on getting back to basics as an organization, part of doing so is maintaining excellent facilities that enable our teams to deliver reliable services,” said Joseph A. Melder, City Manager. “I’m proud of Team Sanitation’s hard work and service as they make sure the Dean Forest facility is in good working order so that we remain positioned to exceed environmental standards and meet the needs of our community.”

The annual inspection assesses, among other things, compliance with the Georgia Comprehensive Solid Waste Management Act, the Georgia Rules for Solid Waste Management, and the approved design and operations and closure plans.

This exceptional accomplishment was achieved through the hard work and dedication of the entire Refuse Disposal staff, particularly Landfill Crew Chief Mason Clark, Environmental Compliance Coordinator De’Anna Dudley, and Assistant Director Quhannah Andrews.

The Dean Forest landfill has received a 100% inspection rate for five consecutive years. Due to the consistent high-quality, the sanitation landfill is now informally used by the EPD for staff field training.
