City, Partners to Provide Spaces to Stay Warm This Weekend
SAVANNAH (Jan. 19, 2024) – With wind chill advisories predicted to dip below 20 degrees this weekend, the City of Savannah and partner agencies are making warming facilities available for residents without adequate shelter.
The Tomkins Regional Center, 2333 Ogeechee Road, will open Friday night, Jan. 19, from 7 p.m. to 8:15 a.m. and again Saturday night, Jan. 20, from 7 p.m. to 8:15 a.m. for residents in need of a last resort overnight shelter. Pets, under the owner’s control, are welcome. Bare essentials will be provided.
The Savannah Police Department and Chatham Savannah Authority for the Homeless (CSAH) can assist in transporting residents to shelter locations if required.
Residents are encouraged to minimize travel, stay indoors, and check on the elderly and bring pets inside during the worst part of the extreme cold. The City has notified horse drawn carriage tour companies of the impending cold tonight and this weekend in accordance with the City ordinance. Tourism Compliance Officers will monitor horses.
To contact SPD, please call the non-emergency number at 912-652-6500.
To contact CSAH, please call 912-790-3400.
Homeless Service Provider Partners are also extending hours and services to serve persons experiencing homelessness. Transportation is available through CSAH outreach staff. Please call the number available for assistance and transportation support.
