UPDATE (Aug. 11, 10 a.m.): 

The City of Savannah’s Emergency Operations Center remains activated in response to ongoing flooding along the Ogeechee River. Our command post is operating out of Fire Station 12, and we are actively coordinating efforts to address the flooding that is affecting several neighborhoods, with Bradley Point and Teal Lake experiencing the most significant impacts.

This is a multi-day flooding event, and current models predict that the peak water levels will be reached sometime on Monday, though the peak levels could occur as soon as today. If you reside in an area affected by the floodwaters, please be advised that these impacts will continue over the coming days, with water levels potentially rising several more inches before they begin to recede.

Once the water starts to recede, it will take several days for some roadways to become passable again. We urge residents to refrain from driving on any closed roads, as floodwaters may have caused damage to the roadways that is not immediately visible. The City will be assessing roadway conditions as the waters recede to ensure safety.

For residents in impacted areas who need assistance, please call 311 to be connected with emergency personnel. The City is providing resources including access to food, water, and evacuation assistance if necessary.

So far, Savannah police officers and firefighters have completed the evacuation of 150 people and 10 pets from areas impacted by the floodwaters. We will continue our emergency operations for as long as necessary to ensure the safety and well-being of our residents. The City is also coordinating closely with the County to manage this unprecedented flooding event.

UPDATE (Aug. 10, 3:30 p.m.): 

Aug. 10, 3:30 p.m. update: As of 3 p.m., the City of Savannah’s stormwater modeling indicates that street flooding in the Bradley Point and Villages of Vallambrosia area is likely to increase by up to another 12 inches before water levels begin to recede. Residents in Fords Pointe, Teal Lake, Bush Road and Rice Mill should also monitor conditions closely. 

Peak water levels are not anticipated to be reached until sometime on Monday or Tuesday. It is extremely important that residents do not attempt to drive down closed roadways, as roadway conditions may be impacted by the presence of water and vehicles are also likely to become stranded in the water. Emergency resources are positioned nearby at Fire Station 12 to assist residents as needed, anyone impacted by flooding and needing assistance can call 912-925-4866. 

The Savannah Police and Fire Departments will be setting up an emergency outpost within Bradley Point and the American Red Cross is sending resources to the community. Chatham County has announced the availability of a shelter for anyone impacted by the flooding, the shelter is located at Coastal Georgia Comprehensive Academy, 2001 Cynthia Street.

It is still expected that Bradley Boulevard will potentially take several days for water levels to recede once the peak level is reached and will remain closed until water levels are reduced below 12 inches. City of Savannah damage assessment teams are on standby to activate to assess any damage that may be caused by this flooding event.

Roadways Impacted Near Bradley Point Subdivision Due to Ogeechee River Flooding

SAVANNAH – The City of Savannah has closed multiple roadways and anticipates closing additional roadways in the vicinity of the Bradley Point subdivision due to Ogeechee River flooding. The situation is evolving, and drivers should use extreme caution in this area until river levels recede.  For the current road closures in the City visit savannahga.gov/floodalert.  

Update: As of 4:30 p.m., Bradley Boulevard has been closed due to flood waters exceeding 12 inches in depth. City stormwater models estimate that the roadway will likely remain closed until at least 5 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 11. Additional updates will be provided as needed, including if the reopening timeline changes.

• Update: Stormwater models estimate that Bradley Boulevard, east of Castello, will need to be closed to traffic around 5 p.m. today due to water levels. Residents should plan now to leave or shelter in place until the roadway is reopened when water levels recede.
