For Immediate Release
Date: January 28, 2014
The National Weather Service has issued an Ice Storm Warning for our area from today, Jan. 28 at 5 p.m., through Wednesday, Jan. 29, at 5 p.m. All non-essential City services, including Sanitation pick-up, will be suspended on Wednesday, Jan. 29.
City offices and programs will be closed to the public on Wednesday. Police and Fire emergency services will remain operational. Residents can report non-life threatening issues to the City, such as fallen tree limbs and icy spots, by calling 311. If a resident witnesses a situation that poses a threat to life safety, such as a downed power line, they should immediately call 911 and avoid the area.
The City has prepared trucks to dispense sand should we experience ice on the roads. Crews will remain on duty to clear fallen tree limbs and debris, and maintain overall regular operations of City infrastructure. Conditions can still be extremely hazardous on the roadways.
The City asks everyone to avoid driving if at all possible during this weather event. Residents will be safest sheltering in their homes. The City will post any informational updates online at savannahga.gov, facebook.com/cityofsavannah and twitter.com/cityofsavannah, and distribute through all local media outlets.
