[ARCHIVED] City crews respond to minor sewage spill

For Immediate Release
Date: July 22, 2014

City of Savannah crews responded to a minor sewage spill at Lift Station 66 – West Victory Drive at 7:20 p.m., Monday, July 21, 2014. The spill was the result of a major rain storm inflow which caused a manhole to overflow. The total volume discharged was estimated to be 160 gallons. The amount of this spill is classified as a minor spill under State Environmental Protection Division guidelines.

The spill was corrected by 8:40 p.m. on Monday. All lift station pumps were operated to reduce overflow/spills until inflow subsided. An evaluation and I & I investigation will be done to determine site/sites of storm-water entry into the sewer collection system and corrective action taken. Spill notifications were posted at the spill site into Springfield Canal at West Victory Driver, Bowles Ford Park and Gwinnett Street. All agencies required by the State EPD were notified.
