In celebration of American Archives Month, the City of Savannah Research Library and Municipal Archives is hosting two special programs open to the general public in October.
“Discover the Archives” is a general introduction to the Municipal Archives intended for those who have never visited the City’s repository before. Participants will learn about the Municipal Archives’ history, types of records available, and how to identify and request historical materials in the collections. The program will include a special show-and-tell highlighting the City’s collections (including maps, photographs, artifacts, manuscripts and bound volumes). Two sessions of this program will be held in City Hall:• Discover the Archives Session 1: Friday, October 10, 9 a.m. -10 a.m.
• Discover the Archives Session 2: Friday, October 10, 12 p.m.-1 p.m
“Genealogical Resources in the Municipal Archives” will offer a review of the archival collections available in the City’s archives that are useful for genealogical research, including naturalizations, tax digests, voter registrations, vital records and more. Two sessions of this program will be held in City Hall:• Genealogical Resources Session 1: Friday, October 24, 9 a.m.-10 a.m.
• Genealogical Resources Session 2: Friday, October 24, 12 p.m.-1 p.m.
