[ARCHIVED] City to celebrate Arbor Day with tree planting at Blessed Sacrament Catholic School

For Immediate Release
Date: February 23, 2015

The Honorable Mayor Edna B. Jackson, members of City Council, Park & Tree Commission members and City Park & Tree staff, will join with Blessed Sacrament Catholic School teachers and students for an Arbor Day celebration and tree planting ceremony at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, February 25. The Arbor Day program will include readings and musical selections by students and a presentation of the City’s Arbor Day Proclamation by the Mayor. The school is located at 1003 East Victory Drive.

The City of Savannah is also celebrating its 30th consecutive year being named a Tree City USA by the Arbor Day Foundation in honor of its commitment to effective urban forest management. This is in recognition of the City meeting the program’s four requirements: a tree board or department, a tree-care ordinance, an annual community forestry budget of at least $2 per capita and an Arbor Day observance and proclamation.

For more information contact the Park & Tree Department at 912-651-6610.
