[ARCHIVED] City responds to minor sewage spill

Date: April 14, 2015

City of Savannah crews responded to a minor sewage spill at 1 Fort Argyle Road - State Route 204 / I – 95 at 11:04 a.m. Tuesday, April 14, 2015. The spill was the result of a force main failure. The total volume discharged was estimated to be 150 gallons. The amount of this spill is classified as a minor spill under State Environmental Protection Division guidelines.

The spill was corrected by 11:35 a.m. Monday. Crews repaired the split in the force main and utilized City of Savannah Jet Vacuum Trucks to remove sewage. Lime was spread on contaminated areas and samples were taken downstream from discharge. Spill notification markers were placed at the spill site. All agencies required by the State EPD were notified.
