[ARCHIVED] City responds to minor sewage spill

Date: December 9, 2015

City of Savannah crews responded to a minor sewage spill at 1810 Mills B Lane at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, December 9, 2015. The spill was caused by a grease stoppage in a City Gravity Main. The total volume discharged was estimated to be 4,648 gallons. The amount of this spill is classified as a minor spill under State Environmental Protection Division guidelines.

The spill was corrected by 2:26 p.m., Wednesday, December 9, 2015. The receiving storm ditch was contained and by-pass pumps were used to mitigate area and prevent overflow waters from getting further into the City storm drainage system.

Spill notifications were posted at the spill site, at Bowles Ford/Spring field Canal, and at Gwinnett/Springfield Canal. All agencies required by the State EPD were notified.
